Internet Outages
Internet Outages
Many of you may have been affected by a recent Internet outage if you are an AT&T customer.
I certainly was.
This recent outage disrupted overall communications provided by this extremely popular and widely utilized Internet Service Provider (ISP). Impacting businesses by forcing cash only purchases or temporarily putting their business on hold.
On a personal level, customers were left with no ability to carry on with day to day routines over a period of several hours. Technicians like myself basically checked everything down to the lowest level of communications to rule out the possibility of any local issue.
Some folks even visited local establishments with an alternate ISP to gain Internet access.
If you were able to establish a connection from another provider, you could research the issue further.
This brings me to a couple of tools available that you may find useful during an Internet outage:
Down Detector is a very popular and an adequate website for being able to see what is happening with ISP's. Also, you can track what is happening with a number of other websites. Popular social networking sites, streaming media, cloud service providers & cellular providers etc. You can also read and provide comments in regards to occurrences. I have been using this site for years and have found it very useful.
I ran across another site recently that is very intuitive and provides very granular details about Internet outages happening all over the world.
Outage Analyzer tracks Internet outages in real time defining the impact of the affected area. It's interface is very informative. From maps that highlight problems, details and timeline toggling to a side bar providing you the ability to drill down into an area and also specify custom alerts etc, Outage Analyzer is very informative and a nice tool to have.
I'm sure there are many other providers in regards to this type of service. I highlighted these two because of their availability and effectiveness.
Kudos for providing these tools Down Detector & Outage Analyzer. Keep up the good work!
Cheers
